Sangiovese needs time to refine its tannins and tart acidity while gaining complexity and a velvety mouthfeel. This is why Annibale aged Brunello 2016 for 6 years in total instead of the five required by the regulation, 3 and a half of them in big barrels. A Riserva in disguise, born under the star of balance.
2016 has been the famous perfect ripening season, which means not too hot, not too cold, good rains in the spring and no rains during the harvest. A recipe that conducted to a dense wine of great depth and territoriality at its best resulting in a very long life.
Brunello 2016 is living in conflict between its youngness, with crunchiness of fruit and bright freshness, and maturity, as complexity and color will show you. The nose speaks about the forest that surrounds Nostravita with hints of raspberry, moss, rosemary, wild roses and burnt oak. A tannin still roaring but not rough will lead you to a finish perfectly coherent with the nose on the path for the woods. Brunello ‘16 is a wine that breathes, like after a sultry day when the sun finally goes down and the evening breeze picks up.
Medium aged pecorino cheese, Fiorentina steak, ragout pappardelle or just after dinner.

The 2016 Brunello is our first certified ORGANIC Brunello. An official recognition of how we have always produced our wine.
